Klean Plate x Uber Eats Residency

Hello and welcome! My name is Alana Hunnicutt-Carroll also known as Chef Alana, I was born and raised in Washington, DC. I’m a wife, mom, and chronic disease warrior.

My love for cooking started when I was 7 years old. I cooked my first box cake completely on my own and it came out great. From that point on I had the confidence to start cooking my own breakfast....eggs, bacon, pancakes, which led me to cook more dishes. Before I knew it, I was cooking soul food and the dishes I loved growing up but looked too intimidating to prepare. In 2003 I attended Stratford University School of Culinary Arts to become a chef. Although I went to school, and very passionate about cooking, I never saw it as a career, it was something I would do on the side as a hobby and I would work my “professional job” in the federal government because that’s what I was taught. I wasn’t happy but I was comfortable and stable. I would cater, do meal preps, dinners, etc... off and on for many years. No matter what path I took in life, I just couldn’t shake my passion for cooking. I always get asked what do I specialize in and I hesitate to answer that question because I cook great food. I don’t want to box myself in as I’m always experimenting with new recipes.
